Oslo Para Alpine Camp June 2024
This June, We headed to Oslo, for a Para Alpine Training Camp. This was the 1st training camp of the new season for the Elite Development Squad, consisting of two VI skiers and their guides, two standing males and a standing female. They were joined by Menna Fitzpatrick, Katie Guest and Jo Ryding of the World Class Programme. This brought a new dimension to the camp, with the Squad training alongside athletes who have already succeeded on the world stage. Having the time to train, team build and share experiences was beneficial and fun for all, leading to the most successful camp to date and providing an ideal model for future camps.
Menna Fitzpatrick said “ it’s been great to join with the Development Team athletes, sharing training time on and off slope. It has been a hugely positive experience and a brilliant atmosphere. “
Athletes worked on personal programmes focussing on specific fundamental skills during eight 2-hour sessions on snow. Mornings were used to improve fitness and provide teambuilding activities, including cores sessions, running and a high-wire fun session.
Head Coach Blake Williams said “training alongside the world class programme athletes really enhanced the camp. It brought new energy to the Team, inspiring the next generation of para alpine champions. “
Support from charities and sponsorship arrangements are fundamental to making these camps viable and successful, so a big thank you to Arnold Clark and Get Kids Going for their continued support.
