This new role marks an exciting chapter in his career as he transitions from his previous position to a more expansive leadership role. Alastair will now spearhead the development of snowboarding, in all capacities, across Scotland.
In his new role, Alastair will continue to work on advancing inclusive snowboarding programs, growing grass roots snowboarding, developing a new boardercross pathway and assist in performance coaching for development level para-athletes, ensuring that they receive top-tier support in their training and competition.
One of Alastair’s key responsibilities will be overseeing the recruitment and training of new snowboard instructors and leaders. By also focusing on the retention of snowboarding instruction, he aims to grow and strengthen the workforce that supports Scotland’s snowboarding community.

In this expanded role, Euan will lead the overall management of the Park + Pipe pathway, continuing to build on his successful tenure while also stepping into the role of Head Coach for the teams.
As the Pathway Manager, Euan will oversee the development and progression of athletes within the Park + Pipe discipline, ensuring a smooth and effective pathway from grassroots development to elite competition. His experience in coaching, coupled with a deep understanding of the unique demands of Park + Pipe skiing and snowboarding, positions him to strengthen Scotland’s standing in these disciplines.
In addition to his managerial duties, Euan’s role as Head Coach will allow him to work closely with athletes, honing their skills and preparing them for national and international competitions.
Fern Cates, who previously served as the Para Nordic Pathway Coach, has been promoted to Cross Country and Para Nordic Programme Manager and Head Coach. Fern will oversee the overall development and management of both cross-country and para Nordic skiing programmes. She will be responsible for leading coaching strategies, athlete development, and programme innovation to ensure that Scottish athletes can excel at both the grassroots and elite levels.
As Head Coach, Fern will directly guide athletes in both cross-country and para Nordic skiing, offering them the technical expertise and mentorship they need to succeed. Sarah Houcke will be taking on Fern’s previous role of the Adaptive Cross Country Pathway Coach, alongside her role of Cross Country Pathway Lead.
Together, Fern and Sarah will play pivotal roles in enhancing the cross-country skiing and para Nordic landscape in Scotland. Their leadership and vision promise to boost athlete performance and participation, ensuring that these programmes continue to grow and thrive.
