SSS Tutors Explained

Snowsport Scotland tutors are appointed each year to deliver our instructor, leader and coach qualification training courses.

Tutors are appointed directly by Snowsport Scotland to deliver specific courses based upon their own experience and qualifications.

Contracts are renewed annually and run from 1st June to 31st May.

Become a Tutor

All highly qualified coaches, leaders and instructors with more than 5 years of domestic and international snowsports teaching or coaching experience are invited to apply to Snowsport Scotland to become a tutor.

Applications, supported by details of all qualifications and references are reviewed by the Snowsport Scotland discipline committees, and successful candidates invited to interview.

If successful at interview, candidates are then invited to:-

1. Attend tutor induction and orientation training

2. Shadow the delivery of each course they are planning to deliver

3. Deliver each course under mentor supervision.

On completion of this process tutors are appointed to deliver their designated courses until the next renewal date on 31 May.

APPLICATION

Before applying, applicants must ensure they meet the following criteria:-

1. Be a fully paid-up coaching member of SSS and hold a currently licensed qualification at a higher level than that which they wish to tutor (in the same pathway, eg. Park + Pipe or Alpine).

2. Have a proven track record of coaching/teaching in the Snowsport industry for more than 5 years working in both the UK and abroad in artificial and snow environments.

3. Have a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes and being respected as a credible professional in the snowsports industry.

4. Have an unblemished record of conduct.

5. Have experience in management within a Snowsport school or running a coaching programme within a Snowsport club.

6. Have excellent instructing or coaching knowledge of either skiing or snowboarding.

7. Demonstrate sound knowledge of the UK Snowsports qualifications pathway and an understanding of International Snowsports qualifications.

8. Provide a minimum of 2 weeks of availability per year to deliver courses.

9. Be willing to act as an ambassador for Snowsport Scotland, communicating and promoting the vision, strategy and direction of Snowsport Scotland with passion, excellence, teamwork, professionalism and integrity.

10. Be an inspiring presenter with the ability to present both on and off-slope using relevant presentation tools (eg I.T. skills, etc).

11. Demonstrate professionalism in their communication with all stakeholders and candidates.

12. Be able to manage difficult conversations and situations.

13. Be highly organised and pay close attention to detail.

14. Work and contribute well in a team environment.

15. Commit to engage in regular professional development as outlined by Snowsport Scotland.

16. Be prepared to inspire and mentor new generations of instructors, coaches, leaders and tutors.

17. Provide personal and professional references to the satisfaction of the discipline committee
