Women and Girls in Sport Week 2020

Women and Girls in Sport (WGIS) week is an annual Scottish Government initiative aimed at celebrating and encouraging female participation in sport. This year WGIS week is running from Sat 24 October and culminating in Active Girls Day on Friday 30 October.
At Snowsport Scotland we have been working on our equality action plan, which includes a number of programmes and projects targeting female participation. Throughout the week we will be running a number of online sessions, forums that are open to all females across Snowsports in Scotland.
Women in Snowsports Forum Launch Session – 27th October 6pm (online)
As part of our 4 year equality plan, Snowsport Scotland are looking to establish a forum/network of females within the Scottish Snowsports community; where we can come together throughout the season and have discussions on female participation, growth of the sport and ways we can increase engagement. Our launch session is open to women of all ages, abilities and disciplines in Scottish Snowsports.
Community Discussion – ‘Retaining Girls in Snowsports’ – 29th October 6pm (online)
The Retaining Girls in Snowsports session will focus on teenage girl participation in Scottish Snowsports. The session will include an overview of available data; sign-posting to available resources for retaining girls in sport; sharing of successful case studies from other sports; and an opportunity for community discussion. This session is targeted at Club Committees, Coaches/leaders/instructors, teachers and parents, but all are welcome.
Female Youth and Junior Session – 30th October 7:30pm (online)
For 12- 18 year old girls interested in competitive Snowsports. This will be the launch for monthly virtual meet-ups for youth and junior girls to get together and discuss a range of topics including nutrition, different career paths in snowsport and competition opportunities.The first session is being led by Nichole Bathe, one of British Nordic’s senior athletes with guest appearance from former Norwegian team athlete, Olympic medallist and world champion, Astrid Jacobsen.
Female Faces
Throughout the week across our social media platforms, we will be running a Female Faces campaign. This is chance for us to showcase some of the fantastic females that we have across our Snowsports Community.
