The Cairn Gorms welcomed the Upbattle with proper Scottish weather at the weekend but a good time was had by all non the less!!
Saturday saw the derby postponed but product demos from the brands saw many folk out enjoying laps in a closed ski area! Lots of smiles and talk of good snow. Kev from G2 Outdoor ran some avalanche awareness training with the Ortovox SAM 3D model which supports group discussion on good practice in avalanche terrain. Ravenscraig, a guesthouse in Aviemore, hosted the evening social, with Scott showing highland hospitality in his home, good craic was had.
A drop in the wind Sunday let the Splitboard derby take place with 26 competitors transitioning in a lemans style start from snowboard to split skis, then busting their lungs up the Fiacaill Ridge, down the Zigzags into Jeans Bowl before skinning straight up the old Fiacaill T-bar track to Windy Col where Euan Baxter from Snowsport Scotland marked the transition point to flip back into snowboard and ride to the bottom.
Well done to the winners Dan Braund and GBSnowsports Lesley Mckenna both repeat winners and receivers of fantastic custom trophies by none other than the legend of British Snowboarding Simon Bloody Smith! Big thanks to Jonny Barr and his wife Louise for the event, RavensCraig Guesthouse, G2 Outdoor, Cairngorm Mountain. Ortovox Uk and all the folk who came along and had fun earning turns!!
