Snowsport Scotland and GB Snowsport, in partnership with AFPST are pleased to announce three new staff appointments to support the development of the UK Para Alpine, Para Nordic and Para Snowboard pathways to increase participation and the opportunity for more athletes to perform on the world stage.


Organisational Partnership – Para Alpine Pathway Programme


The Armed Forces Para Snowsport Team has been operating in the Para Alpine pathway environment for over a decade and continues to pioneer pathways in this space. They will support this campaign with access to their knowledge and experience and some of their fantastic coaches including Nikki Jordan, AFPST Alpine Manager.


Nikki has been the Alpine Performance Manager and Head Coach at the Armed Forces Para Snowsport Team and as an athlete was the Captain of the British Armed Forces Alpine Team from 2007-2012.


As a coach, Nikki has led four para-athletes to World Cup level, and will be working towards potential selection for the 2022 Beijing Paralympic Winter Games. With a strong interest in creating motivational learning environments, Nikki has recently completed a MSc Performance Coaching qualification and holds both an Alpine UKCP and Canadian Ski Instructor L2 award.

Fern Cates – Para Nordic Pathway Coach


Fern is a former British Nordic athlete, who has recently begun coaching assignments with the British Nordic Development Squad, following coaching roles with the London XC Ski Club and able-bodied and Para Nordic coaching projects in France.


Fern is the current Chair of the Snowsport England Nordic Committee and has completed a BSc. International Relations qualification. As a coach, Fern holds BASI and Snowsport England Instructor awards.


Fern will start her new role with Snowsport Scotland on the 30th August 2021.

Alastair Nasmyth – Para Snowboard Pathway Coach


Alastair joins Snowsport Scotland following a coaching career spanning the United Kingdom, Europe, Japan and Canada. More recently, Alastair has been the Freestyle Snowboard Coach and Instructor at Midlothian Snowsports Centre.


Alastair holds a BASI Snowboard Instructor Level 4 ISTD, Carte Pro Moniteur de Snowboard, UKCP Snowboard Coach Level 2, BASI Ski Instructor Level 1 and a European Mountain Security awards.


Alastair will start his new role with Snowsport Scotland on the 30th August 2021.
