Since the lifting of the COVID-19 restrictions on the 26th  of April, we have seen the re-opening of snowsport centres and the re-start of lots of snowsport activity! Over the past 5/6 weeks, our centres and clubs, have been working tirelessly to get their facilities back up and running, planning countless training sessions and looking forward to the season ahead!

Snowsport Scotland have been continuously working closely with sportscotland and the Scottish Government to ensure that the COVID-19 guidance and protocols are up to date and communicated and we are grateful for the cooperation and help from all our stakeholders.

It has been great for us to see the return of so much snowsport activity, and the engagement levels at training sessions and events. Some of the highlights from Snowsport Scotland over the recent weeks are:

We have seen the return of our Fife Roller Ski Club on Monday nights at the Fife cycle park and this year will be introducing ”Monthly Events” and ”Beginner Blocks”. The monthly events will be the first Monday of every month and will range from exploring the cycleways of Fife to our now annual Halloween dress up!

Our first Futures session post lockdown was held at the new freestyle slope at Midlothian Snowsports Centre; with 13 athletes attending, developing their tricks and skills in the park. We have already scheduled our next Hillend session on the 20th June and an Aberdeen Futures session on 16th June!

Our Scottish Alpine team had their first Home Nations Training Programme camp of the 2021/22 season at the sportscotland National Sports Training Centre, Inverclyde. Across the weekend 16 Scottish team athletes take part in fitness training, team building, nutrition, goal setting and preparation for the ski season ahead.

This weekend will also see the first Alpine race in nearly 15 months take place at Hillend Ski Slope; with LSR hosting the Twin Peaks race on Sunday 6th June. We can’t wait to see racers back on their skis again and hopefully the sign of things to come this season!
