At a time when many Scottish snowsports clubs are beginning to emerge from the challenges of the Coronavirus lockdown, it is great to hear of the revival of a local alpine race training club.   Gary Todd, the Head Coach explains: “Following three successful summer camps, Polmont Ski Racing restarted its alpine race training programme on 24th August.  Our new venue for training is at FIRPARK Ski Centre, Tillicoultry.”  Gary continued: ”the new coaching team are looking forward to our regular weekly coaching sessions and to our next race camps in October.”

Where there is a will, there is a way is an after used expression and the desire to see the club back up and running, Phoenix like, has been the desire of Gary, his fellow coaches and the club’s committee.

“Five weeks ago we didn’t think we’d be skiing even now and we’ve now run three camps and are restarting weekly training on Monday”, explains Gary.

Such is the determination of those involved with the club, despite their home slope not having reopened yet, they have moved their whole operation 17 miles across the River Forth to Tillicoultry and the Firpark Ski Centre.

With forty years in the ski industry Gary is a self confessed ‘eternal optimist’ and adds “no one knows what the next few months will bring but we’ll keep trying, and our aim is to be training & racing on home snow this year. Small steps – big efforts – massive changes.”
