Just over a week until the start of the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships 2017

The Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships will return to the French resort of Tignes in just over a week, bringing all the top names of British Alpine skiing together for two weeks of racing from 25th March to 7th April 2017.

Returning for its third year running to Tignes, the biggest event on the British Alpine Ski Racing calendar will see the best British ski racers battling it out for the Senior and Junior British Championship honours alongside their world-class international counterparts. Immediately after the Senior and Junior Championships, there will be the chance to witness the best young British racing talent at the Children’s Championships the following week.

Fresh from World Cup Finals in Aspen, Dave Ryding, who also secured a 2nd place win in Kitzbuhel earlier this year, will head to Tignes to contest the Slalom and he will be joined by other top British names at the Champs, including Charlie Raposo, Laurie Taylor, Billy Major and Robert Poth. For the ladies, Alex Tilley travels to Tignes following her top 20 finish in last weekend’s World Cup and she will be joined by Charlie Guest and also Cara Brown who is back in competition following a knee injury sustained last year. Also in action are the next group of British skiing hopefuls, including Yasmin Cooper, Jessica Anderson and Iain Innes.

For the second year running, there will be the chance to see the British Parasnowsport athletes in action as Disability Snowsport UK join forces with the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships to run a British Disabled Slalom and GS on Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd April 2017. In action will be several of Great Britain’s top para athletes, including World Para Alpine Skiing Championship gold medallists Millie Knight and guide Brett Wild, plus Menna Fitzpatrick and her guide Jen Kehoe.

Then the following week, the Delancey British Children’s Championships will see the rising stars of British ski racing take to the slopes to fight it out for the Under 16, Under 14, Under 12 and Under 10 title honours.  Running from 3rd to 7th April the Children’s Championships will feature hundreds of young ski racers looking to gain experience and show what they can do on-snow.

Jamie Ritblat, Chairman & CEO of Delancey, commented:

“The Delancey Championships allow the best of our British alpine athletes to compete on both a national and international stage, and after watching the impressive results from this season, competition is likely to be tougher than ever. The funding for British Ski and Snowboard is integral to nurturing the ski talent we have in the UK, especially in the lead up to the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeong Chang. By helping provide better services for our athletes, including strength and conditioning programmes and physiotherapy, we hope to see many more British World Cup and Olympic medal winning athletes. We look forward to watching our athletes compete on the slopes in Tignes, as we host the 2017 Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships once again.”

Dave Edwards, Chief Executive of British Ski and Snowboard, said:

“After a season of unprecedented success for British snowsports, we can’t wait to return to Tignes and have the chance to watch our best British Alpine ski racers in action. I fully expect some exciting racing, with rising stars such as Laurie Taylor challenging Dave Ryding and the more experienced skiers for the British titles. It is also the best chance in the racing calendar to see all the young rising British stars in one place. We are also hugely grateful for the support of Sir John and Jamie Ritblat, and Delancey as principal sponsor of British Ski and Snowboard and the Championships. They ensure we can deliver the best event possible, attracting all the top British skiers and making for a fun and competitive event.”

For 2017, the Delancey British National Alpine Ski Championships will again be supported by Delancey’s official charity partner, Snow-Camp, in the form of Snow-Camp apprentices who will be helping out across the event as part of the on-snow organising team. For 2017 the apprentices in Tignes will be Hamza Alkebida (17), Aimee Hudgell (17) Lewis Young (20) and Laquan Bacchus (20).

Snow-Camp Founder and Director Dan Charlish said of their involvement: "The Delancey British Alpine Ski Championships is the biggest event on the British ski racing calendar and we're incredibly pleased to be involved again. As a snowsports youth charity, we're passionate about using snowsports as a tool to engage inner-city young people to provide them with life-skills, qualifications and vocational opportunities. Four of our young people will be volunteering at the event and it will be a life-changing experience for them. Going from inner-city London to the mountain environment will broaden their horizons and provide them with fantastic work experience. We're so grateful to everyone at Delancey and British Ski and Snowboard for believing in our work and supporting us."
