The first event of the Scottish Park & Pipe Triple Crown, the Indoor Open, was a brilliant success with 55 skiers showing off what they can do on Snow Factor’s custom-built indoor slopestyle course.
Well-known names in the Park & Pipe community, Chris McCormick, from Bearsden Ski & Board Club, and Kirsty Muir, of Aberdeen Snowsports Club, both took the first place podium spot for the Men’s and Women’s Overall in the Freeski category.
Chris McCormick, 18, edged out fellow Bearsden rider, Harris Booth, with polished rail tricks as well as a ‘Cork 720 Mute’ on the kicker to take first place despite Booth adding a ‘Cork 9 Blunt’ in the final round. Kyle Jenkins, also from Bearsden, came in third place to join McCormick and Booth on the podium for the Men’s Freeski.
Kirsty Muir, Aberdeen Snowsports Club, continued to impress judges on her way to the top of the podium in the Women’s Freeski followed by Olivia Burke, from Bearsden, in second and Grace Harrison, from Chill Factore, who came in third.
Snow Factor rider, Rio Peterson, had great style as she placed ahead of English snowboarder, Cerys Allen, to claim first for Overall Women’s Snowboard. Jade Walsh joined Peterson and Allen on the podium placing third.
The Men’s Overall Snowboard saw impressive riding as Angus Malloch, Snow Factor rider, placed first after a crowd pleasing ‘Cab 450’ onto Snow Factor’s ‘Big Blue’ on his final run. Ciaran Tucker, from Bearsden, came in second followed by another Snow Factor rider, Marc McClement, who placed third.
Ben Kinnear, Snowsport Scotland Park & Pipe Pathway Coach, commented,
“It was great to see such a good turnout of athletes from all over the North and South. We saw a lot of spirit, high fives, smiles, and people having fun!
The event saw a high calibre of competition from a number of athletes. One trick I cannot forget was when Malloch nailed the ‘Cab 450’ on the last rail!
Strong riding was seen in the Women’s Snowboard with Allen performing great ‘Front ‘3’s’”.
The Triple Crown sponsors, Pre-Fit and NorVern, provided much appreciated support and spot prizes for the event and its competitors.
Snowsport Scotland would like to thank Snow Factor and their staff for hosting the event, as well as our volunteers, sponsors, and of course, the competitors for putting on another fantastic event.
The next Triple Crown event, The Scottish Park & Pipe Dryslope Open, will be hosted at Bearsden Ski & Board Club on November 12, 2016. Please visit www.snowsportscotland.org for more information on all of Snowsport Scotland’s events and competitions.
