Last year saw the first Adventure Sports Coaching Conference that was run at Glenmore Lodge and proved to be a hugely successful event. The conference is back again this year on Sunday 4th December 2016, with new topics, new speakers and hope will prove to be equally as successful.
The ethos of the day is similar to last year, as in it will aim to bring together a variety of experienced coaches who work in the adventure sports environments of paddling, mountaineering/climbing, mountain biking, snowsports and orienteering in order to share ideas and further their knowledge to support them in their work as coaches. The day this year focus’s on how we create the optimum environment to support learning and performance and aims to explore coaching theories that support this area of coaching and then contextualise this through facilitated discussion into our own adventure sports.
The day will again be a unique event for Scotland where the key coaches, governing bodies and educational establishments will all be in one place with a common goal of developing ways to coach adventure sports. It is hoped that much of the great practice that happens within the various disciplines of adventure sports will be shared, alongside gaining some new knowledge to develop it further. The day will bring cutting edge relevant coaching theories from the world of academia into the practical world of the adventure sports coach. At present the delivery team consist of Doug Cooper, Scott Simon, Dr Justine Allen (Stirling University), Paul Gray (UCLAN University), Lara Cooper and Lesley McKenna; who between them bring some of the highest academic awards available in coaching alongside some of the highest NGB awards in a range of disciplines. Alongside this they are all practicing coaches, active performers and have excelled on the international stage whether that in International/Olympic competition or on exploratory expeditions.
The day is recognised as CPD by Snowsport Scotland; with further details, full programme and booking available at www.glenmorelodge.org.uk
